I don’t know her. Not her name, not her story. But I’ll remember her light and energy she carried.
I went to Hotworx today, and as I was walking in, a lady came out of the sauna looking like she had conquered it. She radiated this powerful, sweaty, victorious energy. I smiled at her and said, “You made it! I bet that was a great workout!”
I meant it like: you survived, you crushed it, you came out alive with a glow. But she looked at me curiously, like maybe she thought I meant, “You finally made it to Hotworx.”
She tilted her head and asked, “How have you been?”… as if she knew me. I didn’t know her, but I played along with a smile. I told her I was good, just taking a yoga class because I’d been slacking and taking cycle classes lately. She laughed and said, “Me too! But today I did six classes!”
Six! That’s beast mode. I told her so, and her eyes lit up as she shared that she was feeling good, back in her rhythm, even heading into a warrior class next. There was this glimmer in her eye, like she thought I knew her story, like maybe I’d been there all along, cheering her on.
And maybe that’s the point: connection doesn’t always come from deep history. Sometimes it’s born in a single smile, a single exchange. Two strangers, sharing a spark of recognition, encouragement, and light.
That’s the light in others… it’s the way we lift one another up, even when we don’t know the whole story. It’s the way someone’s glow can remind us of our own.
Keep smiling. Keep sharing your light. You never know what sparks you’ll start.
In my world…
every smile carries the power to spark connection.encouragement flows easily between strangers.
the light in others reminds me of my own.
